Intersectionality serves as a framework for school education, enabling teachers and schools to understand that each student’s experience is shaped by multiple, interconnected identities — such as gender, ethnicity, language, ability, religion, class, and more. These identities don’t exist in isolation; they overlap and interact, often affecting how students experience privilege, disadvantage, inclusion, or exclusion. By understanding student diversity, this framework promotes fairness and equity, enhances teachers’ reflection, fosters inclusive environments, and prepares students for democratic and empathetic citizenship.

This 5-day professional development workshop equips teachers with the knowledge, skills, and practical strategies to integrate intersectionality into their classrooms for teenage students. Teachers will explore concepts of identity, privilege, and bias, reflect on their own teaching practices, and learn how to design inclusive lessons that honour diverse student experiences. Each day combines interactive activities, case studies, roleplay scenarios, and collaborative planning to foster equitable and engaging learning environments. By the end of the workshop, teachers will leave with actionable lesson adaptations, classroom strategies, and an action plan to promote inclusion and equity in their schools.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
