Theodora Masonou 


Theodora Masonou was born in Larnaca and is a registered Child Psychotherapist/Play Therapist in the UK with International recognition. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Sheffield, a PGCert in Therapeutic Play and a PGDip in Play Therapy with Distinction in both from the University of Leeds Beckett.

 

She had been working in an inclusion unit in Leeds for 5 years helping children excluded from mainstream school, providing behaviour strategies and emotional regulation to both children and their teachers. One of the aims was to empower teachers to feel confident in managing violent and difficult behaviours.  


She has been teaching PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health, and Citizenship Education), focusing mainly on social and emotional learning. During her placement, she worked with underprivileged children as a Play Therapist, providing therapeutic interventions. She has facilitated Group Play Therapy sessions running for 10 weeks in schools and inclusion units in the UK regarding self-esteem, social skills and self-awareness to teachers and children. 


Currently she is self-employed working in Cyprus as Child Psychotherapist and also mentors high school students. Throughout her work, she has developed a great interest in working with teachers, focusing on enhancing their skills in helping children with social and emotional difficulties through play. Her aim is for everyone to have the opportunity for social and emotional learning, which is vital for development, including people’s relationships and emotional intelligence.
